What a year 2013 has been so far !

I have been very busy growing! Business wise & personally. For 5 years it’s been all about my salon. So I had to reevaluate my priorities in order to have a balance between my personal life as well as my business.

Anyway,on to the blog lol …

This blog is for the fast growing crop of natural haired woman all over. Who are looking for style variety this summer. I as well am natural (although I bounce back & forth between relaxed & natural). Here are several styles I plan to try this summer!

Have fun with:pins,clips,scarves,etc. ! I love to tie around my head to make a headband or bow.

This style is very popular right now & no matter how often I see it I still think its CUTE! Usually I get tired of seeing everybody with the same ol style. Make sure you schedule your braiding appointment EAaaarrrly in the morning !! Because its going to be an all day job!

I have done the fro & in order to be able to pull it off,your make up has to be on point ! This helps modernize the style & makes you look cool !

• Make a facebook business page & market your hustle by buying an ad. You don’t have to spend a whole lot & it beats putting flyers on people’s cars. Anyone who does not see the worth in paying for advertisement is not a savvy business person. We have social networking now. Embrace technology!
• Go to a community college or take some business workshops. Don’t let anything deter you! Not even a learning disability! Anyone can at least go to a workshop. All you have to do is pay the fee. You can look online & google classes or workshops that pertain to what you do.Doing this will give you more knowledge & ideas about how to make your business better!
• Read a book. Go to the library & check out books about what you do & business. When I was working in other people’s shops with a bunch of bitches this is what I did during my down time. It helped me to stay distracted & focused.
• Move. If you know for a fact that you’d make a better living doing nails in L.A then M-O-V-E. Save your money & move to a small town very near L.A & commute to work. Work your way up working in other people’s salons until you have your own! Sometimes you have to go where you will have the demand. If you have to go where people make enough money to be able to afford a service like that ( AT FULL PRICE EVERY TWO WEEKS ! ) Go Girl !

The road to success is not a perfect one. Don’t believe the hype. I have read too many books & magazines about broke ,struggling celebrities. You have to spend money in order to make it. And it takes awhile to get established. Years even. You may have trouble paying your bills on time ( If At All). You may have to get a 2nd job to help pay all your expenses. You maybe stuck in a town where people only get there nails & hair done for holidays or when a reality star makes an appearance at the club. You Can Make It Though! But nothing changes if nothing changes.

Suzette Opara is another talented designing sista! From chitown, I am blessed to have actually met & hung out with her.

Suzette is very down to earth and a natural when it comes to marketing. This business woman had a mini portfolio in the club displaying her designs to random club patrons. Now that’s FOCUSED! Shes always stylishly dressed & accessorized. Her facebook page is strictly business! Only pictures of her work & business info are displayed.

If you know of a sista that is doing big things, LET HER KNOW! Especially if you are also a female yourself. We have to stick together! We are not:neck-rolling-drama-filled-indignant- individuals as tv sometimes portrays us. Let’s shine a brighter light on decency,talent & class !

Now this style is nothing new for black hair. But was very popular on the FASHION WEEK 2012 runways ! This pic of bey is a lil old. But the style apparently is trending again for the new fall season !

Alicia Keys short style is all the rage right now. Shes so pretty, she could do anything with her hair though.

First Lady,Mrs. Obama's signature bob is BEAUTIFUL ! Sometimes its a lil shorter and sometimes its hitting her shoulders. The layers add a lush,polished touch.

Everything old that rih has done,is always NEW again! She has done this short style before. Somehow it still looks "new".

It's no secret that jill loves the natural look ! Now she's sporting a short,cinnamon-hued,fro.

I wish I had some rich friends. Not so I could beg them for money. So I could be inspired to GET MORE MONEY. So I could feel like I was moving up just a lil bit faster. So some of their luxe could rub off on me. . . Because being around broke folks is hella depressing. I am grateful for everything that I have. I am far from where I ultimately want to be. But in a good position to get there eventually. Ya feel me? Nothing will kill a go-getting mood like being surrounded by a bunch of po-mouf folks. You were not born with a silver spoon in your mouth. Okay. We get it. But at what point do you want to STOP being broke? Seems to me like you like living that way. There are folk with 3 & 4 degrees. Been in school for half they life & STILL broke?! It would be so nice to hear people replace “don’t have” with “WILL HAVE”. Refer to your brokeness as a temporary-technical-difficulty. It is what it is but you don’t have to stay in that place.Ya know?

J Lo

People can say what they want about J Lo. That chica works her ass off! So what if she can’t sing. Somebody is keeping her bills paid by buying her music. You gotta respect her effort & confidence. So what if they say she’s a hoe. She’s pulled men that some of us wouldn’t have a chance in hell to get. Got 2 beautiful children & a young hot play toy. If she was a man nobody would have much to say. I respect her because she’s a tough woman! That’s the reason her 15 minutes has lasted all these years. In the September/Fall edition of Instyle magazine, she is noted for how hard she works. The article reads:” The hardworking star wrapped a day of shooting with us at 9 P.M. and was onstage singing hits like “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” for 7,000 fans by about 10:30 that same evening.”

Tyra is a few years older than me,but I she’s still from my era. Not yet 40, but in that grown & sexy age range. Naomi Campbell is still trolling down catwalks at a whopping 40-some years old ( that’s ancient for a model). But my girl tyra has moved up & beyond just being a model. Homegirl is a media mogul! She’s got beauty & brains. Tyra is in control of everything that carries her name. She is a very savvy business woman! And I think she looks better than half of those lil girls on her reality show lol! Even though she is older, she’s still that bitch!

Yea, that’s what she said! I don’t think beyonce would still be around if she wasn’t so fierce. I have no idea what hollywood is like. I doubt being a yes-woman is the way you make it there though. A lot of people think her daddy got her this far. You gotta give B her props. She is doing the most right now and she looks great doing it. She’s married to jigga and is not defined by him.

Albeit  she’s a lil wierd,I am a fan of hers. I am inspired by her because she’s so mature for her age! She’s only in her 20′s and is so focused in her craft. Partying,men and drugs have not taken precedence over her art. How many young,female celebs in their 20′s can you say that about?! And anybody that changes their look as much as she does and stays wearing, break-your-neck-shoes gets props from me!

Your Wedding.

Who wants a cheap wedding hair do?! This should be that 1 time that you do go all out. Don’t nickel & dime your hairstylist. Even if you’re having a small wedding,what about your pictures?! I don’t know not 1 married or (ex married) person who has no pictures to commemorate that special day. So you want to be looking your best, & your best cost money honey.

Prom.

Next to getting married,prom time is very important to us females. And prom pictures haunt you FOREVER!

Graduation.

Whether it be from college or high school. Those caps hide only but so much.

Class Reunion.

Who wants to run back into that crush 20yrs later looking like harriet tubman? Or what about that chick that use to bully you?! Girl you better get your head done!
